As the teacher responsible for Outdoor Learning I get to work with children in a different environment and use a different style of teaching and learning to cover many curriculum areas and develop social skills through team building. I enjoy the enthusiasm of the children for Outdoor Learning and introducing children to things they may never have experienced before.
I am constantly surprised that, even in an urban environment, we have such a great variety of wildlife. My greatest challenge is often identifying what we have discovered; such as a Holly Blue butterfly or Asian ladybird larvae. My greatest satisfaction is, quite literally, the ‘wow factor’ where children are so surprised by something that they cannot suppress their excitement. Hopefully, all the changes that I am going to make to the school grounds will improve this experience for children, enrich the curriculum and also enhance the outside environment that we all share and enjoy.
